1995 Mercedes C220 (GASOLINE)

Postby mgomberg on Tue Jun 02, 2009 10:06 pm

The car has been idling rough for some time now it would 'surge' at a stoplight -almost causing me to to rear end the car in front. Now the problem has progressed it runs fine but wont idle. One shop said to replace the Throttle body Actuator $1,500!! My firend thinks it might be the 'idle air control valve' any ideas?????

Thanks,

Mike

Unfortunatly diagnosing the cause of your problems over the internet is difficult. There are any number of things that can cause your problems. Clogged fuel filter, bad MAP sensor, Dirty throttle body, clogged air filter, clogged injector(s). Do you get a check engine light?

I totally understand - yes the check engine light does come on and I am able to reset it with my hand held diagnostic checker. Unfortunately, the diagnostic machine I have wont register Mercedes codes but the shop said they were pretty sure it was the "Throttle body Actuator" thats what their diagnostic machine said. Assuming (which I hate to do) their machine was correct could it be dirty? Would that register a code? I will check the items you mentioned Clogged fuel filter, bad MAP sensor, Dirty throttle body, clogged air filter, clogged injector(s) and 'idle air control valve'.

Thanks

Did you ask what the code # was? It should be a PXXXX with the X's being numeric. Dirty throttle bodies can cause problems. You might have to remove the assembly to clean it enough.
